Day 12: Gravity Canyon

Today consisted of about 5 hours of driving, with one specific stop in the middle: Mokai Gravity Canyon. Gravity Canyon has three extreme ways to fly: bungy jumping, canyon swinging, and the flying fox. For whatever reason, Jenny, while cringing at the thought of free falling doing a canyon swing, has no problem with the idea of dropping on a zip line from almost three times the height and hitting a speed for 160km/h. In any case, this is what we did. I can't explain anymore about the experience, you'll just have to see the video: Flying Fox.

The day's been wrapped up by getting to Tongariro National Park, booking our shuttle to take us to the head of the Tongariro Alpine Crossing, and setting up camp for the night. Since we've been staying in holiday parks this entire time, we'd forgotten what it's like to be in the woods. While I'm not the biggest fan of glamping (adverb: glamourized camping), it's nice having the camper out in the wilderness. I've run into more international visitors here than any other place in New Zealand and that's probably due to the attraction of the crossing. Hikers from around the world come to experience it and tomorrow, you'll hear why.
